| Fire destroys 3 shops, damages others in Artisans Alley
On a normal business day, The Shops at Artisans Alley in North San Antonio is bustling with customers and tourists. But Wednesday morning, shop owners huddled up in a dark Apple Annie's restaurant trying to assess the damage from a Tuesday night fire. One of 20 shops and two restaurants, Apple Annie's had minor damage — mostly broken windows. Six other businesses were damaged by the fire. Baby & Me, Hacienda Gallery and FurKids were destroyed. Tuscany, CSI and Marisol Boutique also had significant damage. Hollywood Park Fire Chief and Fire Marshal John Butrico said the fire started from two heating units in a closet shared by FurKids and Baby & Me. "The scene is still under investigation, but we are leaning toward it being accidental.

Hip-Hop Rumors: R.I.P. Dr. West, T.I.'s New CD, Diddy's Heir, 50's New ...
Just as a footnote, there are rumors out there, because the cause of death hasn't exactly been revealed, but I am going to chill. I have respect for Kanye and definitely know that losing a parent is painful enough without gossip. T.I. GET BUSY ON NEXT ALBUM! Not sure of the origins of this one, but I heard that T.I. is bored while he is on house arrest. With nothing to really do, he's resorted to recording new songs in his home studio. They are saying this new album in progress is Paper Trail. Apparently T.I. hasn't written his raps down since his debut album. Hmmmm…I think we need an audit to verify rappers that make this claim. Anyway, T.I. is now writing his raps down and that's the reason for the album title.
Law tweaked on phones, speeders, bikers
Correction: The Road Worrier column Tuesday on Page 1B incorrectly described a new law that allows a motorcyclist to proceed through an intersection in some circumstances after waiting at least three minutes for a faulty red light to turn green. The law affects motorcyclists traveling straight ahead or turning in either direction.Last year our brave legislators began, gingerly, to put their foot down on a dangerous but popular practice: phoning while driving.First, they banned it for drivers under 18 years old, except when the teens were chatting with parents, spouses or police dispatchers. This year they broadened the cell-phone ban a bit to include another group: school bus drivers. The change took effect Saturday. Are we feeling safe yet?The new ban also covers drivers of school activity buses and any other vehicle transporting public, private or parochial students for money.

Blueprint to learn lessons of history
When we talk of Culloden let us point out that the Kings army that crushed the Highlanders was principally made up of Scots. Let us teach the Children a history that includes the failed Scottish invasions of England (Like the one by the Bruce's son which ended at Durham with the Scottish Kings capture.) Then maybe they will stop seeing Scotland as victim and understand better their relationship with the Big Yin to the South. PS #3 if you're great great Grandfather was transport from the United Kingdom for anything to do with the 45 then you come from a very long lived family. Or you missed out a few greats. As for calling yourself a Scot then I would say I'm a Viking, or a French man, when in fact I'm a Yorkshireman. I was born there; you were born in the USA so guess what you're American, not Scottish.
