Shakespeare on the Sound announces new play, schedule

At a time when the country is poised to pick its next president, organizers of the annual Shakespeare on the Sound said they were excited about choosing "Julius Caesar" as the subject of their play this year.

"Timing is key in choosing a play and certain plays acquire resonance depending on when you do it," said Ezra Barnes, artistic director of Shakespeare on the Sound, a nonprofit group that sponsors outdoor summer theater performances in Rowayton and Greenwich. "In the middle of election season, it should be very interesting."

Echelon identity on the wane? Not so fast

Voorhees is a township known for its upscale communities, from affluent Alluvium to stately Sturbridge Lakes.

So you can imagine the reaction when a national publication singled out one neighborhood as a great place to live.

OK, maybe you can't imagine -- because for some, the reaction was shock and disbelief.

See, Business Week selected the Echelon section -- an area of humble homes near an often-overlooked mall -- as the fourth-best place to raise a family in America.

Even the magazine seemed taken aback by its choice. Here's the opening line in the article announcing the list's creation: "Echelon, N.J.?"

Some local folks share that view.

"I'm a little bit surprised," said Celeste Pisano, president of the civic association at the highly pedigreed Beagle Club development.

The bomb apparently was meant for a police patrol but missed its target and blew up near the bus instead, a police officer said.

Kylie Minogue gives words of wisdom to Britney Spears

AUSTRALIA'S own Kylie Minogue offered troubled Britney Spears some wise words after the pop singer was snapped crying publicly again.

As photographs showed Spears sitting on a step crying outside her LA home on Monday in yet another bizarre public show of emotion, Minogue urged her fellow pop singer to seek help."I wish someone would write a manual about fame because it's not easy,'' the Australian star was quoted as saying in Britain's The Sun newspaper."I'm always loath to say that, because there are a lot more difficulties out there that people deal with every day - but when fame is handed to you, it is unique."It's not to the same extreme, but I can remember having a mini-meltdown myself - and unless you've got good people around to support you, you've got a problem.''Minogue also believes 26-year-old Spears, whose career has faltered amid an access battle over her two young sons, will bounce back."Who knows what is going on in her life?'' said Minogue, who turns 40 in May."Britney isn't that young any more."I think she will still come back, but it's like she's taken an extended holiday."Whatever help she needs, she should reach out and get it.''AAP Subscribe to our Email Newsletter .

Asian stocks tumble

Foreign investors continued their selling spree for the 18th straight session, dumping 268 billion won ($283 million) in net value on the main board.

Japan's Nikkei benchmark ended down 4 per cent. Goldman Sachs said Japan's economy may be already in recession, due partly to weaker exports and sluggish consumption.

Australia's market was shut for a public holiday. Hong Kong's Hang Seng slid 3 per cent, while MSCI's index of Asia-Pacific stocks excluding Japan fell 3.4 percent by 0700 GMT, taking year to date losses back above 12 per cent.

Shanghai suffered the worst losses, falling 7 per cent, dented by heavy snow across central and eastern China, which is seriously disrupting food and energy supplies.

Traders were eyeing this week's Federal Reserve meeting, at which the bank is set to cut US interest rates again, having slashed them in an emergency move last week.

If the Pats win, are they the best team ever? Maybe ...

Instead, the NFL has stonewalled us, so what does that make you think? Until we know what was on the videotapes and in the documents the NFL destroyed, there will always be a cloud of suspicion over the Patriots. How much of an advantage did they gain by cheating? Did they really hand over everything to the league? Are they still cheating now? Most important by far, have they cheated in the Super Bowl?
