An article Dec. 26 about Milwaukee District Attorney John T. Chisholm's first year in office incorrectly stated that a proposal for a drug-treatment court would reverse the policy of former district attorney E. Michael McCann. McCann supported the idea of drug and mental-health treatment courts during his tenure, though none was ever set up. 1/22/08 An article Friday about a lawsuit alleging that a Mequon gas station magnate has swindled customers out of brand name gas misstated the brand sold at 1710 S. 10th St. in Manitowoc. The station sells Citgo gas, not BP. 1/20/08 Scaled-back plans for The Meadows at Pine Brooke, a proposed condominium development in Burlington, will be presented to the city's Plan Commission on Feb. 12, with a public hearing set for Feb.
Clearing the air
I wonder what low-down stunt he is going to pull off to alienate Chicago's most loyal television and radio audiences. Paul Kaiser: Randy Michaels' actions in Chicago and at Clear Channel Radio showed a distinct lack of discernment not only in general, but in regards to local/regional differences and needs. His shock tactics of 16 years ago would no longer be shocking today, so he'll probably do what he did at Clear Channel -- slash resources and costs so the bottom line reflects well on him, then genericize the product and apply what worked in other markets with the assumption that Chicago is no different. Alan Albert: Just when you think Chicago radio can't get any worse, along comes this nightmare dressed in radio executive's clothes. I can't imagine what this guy might do to ruin the venerable WGN -- a bastion of all that's decent in radio.

Yahoo profit falls, to cut 1000 jobs
YAHOO'S fourth quarter profit fell 23 per cent, the company said today as it outlined plans to slash 1000 jobs in a tough year ahead. Yahoo's revenue forecasts for the first quarter and full year disappointed investors, even though Wall Street analysts had already slashed their expectations of Yahoo's ability to grow internet advertising in a weakened US. economy. The company also announced a renewed deal with AT&T Inc that analysts expect to bring in less revenue this year and outlined a plan to cut about 1000 jobs. It said the efforts would help produce improved cash flow next year. Yahoo's fourth quarter profit fell more than 23 per cent to $US205.7 million ($231.6m), or 15 cents per share, from $US268.7m, or 19 cents a share, a year ago. Overall revenue rose 8 per cent to $US1.83 billion and revenue excluding payments to advertising partners rose 14 per cent to $US1.4bn.
Ad CPM Will Suffer In 2008
Luxury brands, personal care, fashion and cosmetics are laggards. They have yet to spend heavily in digital." The potential for those verticals to enjoy plenty of impressions exists. Fremont thinks a glut of impressions will lead to flatter, or even declining, CPMs. When that changes depends on when more ad inventory hits the online market. If that occurs, Fremont believes key ad sectors like those for automotive, pharmaceutical, and telecoms will need to hold the kind of TV-style upfront sales that can put those ads in front of the right audience. We think opportunities exist now for entrepreneurs who don't fear the confusing signals coming out of Washington and Wall Streeet about the economy. If certain verticals aren't spending on digital ads now, as Fremont suggested, there could be room to build a presence in something like personal care, establish its authority with content, and be a first mover when those marketers start looking for "new" outlets for their ads.
Are You Ready for the 'R' Word?
Additional economic data and corporate write-downs are making investors increasingly nervous that we may be heading toward a recession. American Express announced it was "seeing more delinquencies and less activity from consumers, and was reserving $400 million to cover potential losses." At the high end of the consumer market, Tiffany "cut the top end of its profit forecast because of weak holiday sales," according to The Wall Street Journal. And The New York Times reported that "Merrill Lynch is expected to suffer $15 billion in losses stemming from soured mortgage investments, almost double its original estimate, prompting the firm to raise additional capital from an outside investor." In our capitalistic society, we can expect the economy to ebb and flow. We will have periods of strong growth and periods of slower growth or even contraction.
In Nevada, Obama's message of 'new politics' failed to deliver
Oh well maybe he will learn something on down the road to november. We can't vote on big ideas. And to Marcia …Huckabee has won nothing is the state of ohio. We haven't had our primaries yet. that will be march. One comment said it's a mans world??? are you married to a ….woman…? King's were meant to be crowned. I am a white woman, and will vote for the one who i hope will do the best job. I have seen presidents come and go, they were all men. LOOK AT US NOW.. We women or most of us resent being put in the closet until people like you are ready to let us out. I stand up for my right's as an american and a woman. and I will vote Hillary. and I also agree Bill should take a break and control his mouth and temper. Yes he should back up his wife, but in the right manner. Every man who is a man should stand up for their woman.
