Health worker jailed for abusing girls

His crimes were committed between December 2005 and August 2006 because of "emotional neediness and intoxication'', following the drowning of his young daughter and his separation from his partner. He had also been abused as a child, first when he was six by his father's friend and again as an 11-year-old by his soccer coach, Justice Southwood said. "As a result of the traumatic events in his life the offender used cannabis, of course he became dependant on the drug,'' he said. "It is probable that he was significantly depressed ... it is likely the offender sought contact in sexual behaviour to deal with the stress.'' The man's various afflictions meant he was detached from his usual sense of responsibility, he said. Share this article What is this? .

Developer eyes lively new market from old buildings

An illustration in the downtown plan shows a covered year-round market.

Other city recommendations are to build a new transit center on the Third Avenue side of Wong's property to serve People Mover and inter-city bus lines, and to create an arts and cultural center in Wong's buildings, which would feature the work of local artists, including Native artists. It would draw tourists as well as local residents.

Wong, a developer in Hawaii and Alaska, says his ideas dovetail nicely with the city's. He is already starting his personal revitalization plan for the whole block -- including a new name for the buildings and a new look. The buildings and plaza are now the 4th Avenue Market Place.

He recently bought the Alaska Experience Theatre's domed theater and tourist earthquake show, to be moved into the 4th Avenue Market Place.
