The winning clip, 'Heidi Loves Her Bazooms' was a Victoria's Secret promo spot featuring supermodel Heidi Klum, wearing a selection of the lingerie maker's latest bras in a comedic, combative yet playful series of video vignettes to promote the companies' Holiday Fashion Special on CBS last December.

They Didn’t Stop Thinking About Tomorrow

The former community organizer from Chicago and the former Baptist preacher from Arkansas have little in common in terms of political views. But as I wrote here a month ago, the author of "The Audacity of Hope" and the new man from Hope, Ark., are flip sides of the same coin. The slogan "change" - a brand now so broad and debased that both Hillary Clinton and Mitt Romney appropriated it for their own campaigns - does not do justice to the fresh starts that Mr. Obama and Mr. Huckabee represent.

The two men are the youngest candidates in the entire field, the least angry and the least inclined to seek votes by saturation-bombing us with the post-9/11 arsenal of fear. They both radiate the kind of wit and joy (and, yes, hope) that can come only with self-confidence and a comfort in their own skins.

Shopping Sprees Given To Children Who Lost Possessions In Fires

JAMUL, Calif. -- Children and teens in the Jamul area who suffered losses in the Harris Fire can sign up for $200 mall shopping sprees, courtesy of a group devoted to helping young people recover from the recent wildfire, organizers said.

The shopping sprees are being funded with donations collected by a volunteer group called Having A Positive Profound Impact, also known as HAPPI, organizer Christine Stacey said. .

Could a mall be coming to Crestview?

Word of a possible shopping center in Crestview spawns the usual questions. What stores? What restaurants? Where at? How soon? A Crestview City Council workshop Monday tried to answer this question: "How do we pay for it?" A development agency hoping to build a shopping, dining and entertainment destination in Crestview says it will take a team effort to make the project a reality. Land Capital Group made a presentation prior to the regular Crestview City Council meeting requesting an economic development partnership between the developer, the city and Okaloosa County. "Think of this as a local economic stimulus package," Scott Davison of Land Capital Group told the council. "We know people in Crestview would love to see something like this, but without help from you, it’s not possible." The council approved a consent agenda motion to authorize city representatives to approach the county to discuss the project.

Film Reviews: Supertrash, 'Millions,' 'Shrooms,' 'Nina Simone' & More

Beyond the multiplex this week...

"SHROOMS": The idea of an Irish horror movie sounds exotic; one could, for example, imagine an interesting, scary movie about the ghosts of Celtic warriors laying siege to an Ulster village. Sadly, the filmmaker (Paddy Breathnach) and the filming location are all that's Irish about this standard, derivative slasher flick, which ends with a goofy anti-drug twist that will likely not amuse proponents of natural hallucinogens. The absurd premise -- college-age Americans travel all the way to Ireland just so they can take psychedelic mushrooms in the dark, dank woods? -- seems to have been invented mostly as an excuse to use CGI to simulate the vibrations of a drug trip. Some talent and effort went into creating the visuals; too bad the script appears to have sprouted from the same dung pile as the mushrooms.

Malls head to NYC for retailers

Officials with three proposed retail projects are heading to New York City this week in hopes of luring new stores to the Coastal Bend.

Trademark Property Company, the Fort Worth-based company planning to purchase, renovate and expand Padre Staples Mall; CBL & Associates Properties, one of the developers of Crosstown Commons, the outdoor mall planned for the city's Westside; and Dolphin Ventures, which is planning an outlet mall in Robstown, all will be at an International Council on Shopping Centers convention, which runs through Wednesday.

Each will be vying for the same pool of retailers, which likely includes stores not currently here.

Deal-making is a key part of the event, said council spokeswoman Erin Hershkowitz.

"This is the main way that our members get their tenants, through these deal-making programs," said Hershkowitz.

New Chinese tour operator launches UK programme

China Holidays Travel Group has been in business for 10 years and started a New Zealand-facing programme two years ago.

UK general manager Phil Hardcastle said the UK was a logical step in the company's development as it expands operations globally and carves itself a slice of the British travel market in China.

"The number of UK travellers to China increased by about 30% last year and we expect it to continue to rise. It therefore made sense for us to be based in another English-speaking country," he said.

The operator has launched a mini brochure, the China Tour Book 2008, featuring five group tours and four mini tours taking in mainland China and Hong Kong. Although the main brochure was not due until later this month, Hardcastle said the mini brochure would allow agents to sell product during the peak season.
