Brown will invite the President to agree to his grand plan for eradicating world poverty; Bush will respond by asking the Prime Minister to sign up to the nuking of Iran. Even if their talks are perfectly amicable, there will be long shadows on the walls of the log cabins in the Catoctin mountains of Maryland. There will be the shades of conflict in Afghanistan and Iraq. And there will be the ghost of Tony Blair. Both the GBs had an intensity of relationship with TB that neither will ever have with each other. At his first Camp David meeting with George Bush, more than six long years ago, Tony Blair was told that his host wanted to be informal. Eager to please, he wore a pair of bollock-crushingly tight jeans and seemed to try to ape Bush by adopting a sort of cowboy gait. 'Gordon does not do jeans,' as one of his friends puts it.
Metro-North to process credit, debit card ticket sales
Metro-North Railroad says it will start using hand-held electronic ticket machines for on-board sales. The wireless ticket machines will replace the hole-punched tickets currently sold aboard commuter trains. The wireless devices will also have real-time credit authorization, allowing conductors to accept credit and debit cards for the first time, as well as cash. On April 1, about 500 conductors will begin using the electronic ticket-sales device. The Metro-North committee of the M-T-A's board of directors approved a one-year, $420,000 contract with Verizon Wireless on Monday. The devices can also receive text messages about train operations, including service updates and disruptions. .

Today's overlooked sites may be tomorrow's boom areas Out-of-town ...
It wasn't long ago when people thought young Sam Cherry was making a mistake developing luxury high-rise condos in downtown Las Vegas. The area had a reputation so sketchy it would make Mike Tyson look like a choir boy. Backed by his father-in-law, Chicago businessman Harris Rittoff, Cherry paid $1.2 million, or $40 a square foot, for less than an acre at Las Vegas Boulevard and Hoover Avenue in 2004. The day he put a tractor on the site and started grading for SoHo Lofts, downtown land values doubled. Last year, New York investors David Mitchell and Barnet Lieberman quietly assembled five square blocks downtown, paying about $100 million for 14 acres to develop a live-work-play project. The land is entitled for a 25-story, 280-unit condominium tower, three stories of multifamily residential and more than 300,000 square feet of office space.
